Writer's Guildelines
Thank you for your interest in writing for Northwest Baby & Child. Our award-winning newspaper is published monthly by Baby Diaper Service. Our newspaper is also published online at nwbaby.com.
Our goal is to inform, entertain, inspire, and reassure expectant parents and parents of young children. We believe raising children is life's most challenging and satisfying work. All Northwest Baby & Child staff members are parents, who like helping families get off to a good start.
Our editorial emphasis reflects these beliefs:•There is no one right way to raise a child.
•Parents are the experts on their own children
•If you don't know your options you don't have any.
Familiarize yourself with our publication. We have a theme for each issue (e.g. celebrating mothers, birth and postpartum, family vacations, holidays); articles throughout the paper reflect our theme. Download our editorial calendar under Writer's Resources at nwbaby.com
We accept manuscripts for these topics: monthly themes, parenting, healthy living, and family activities. We assign reviews of books, cassettes, CDs, software, DVDs, and videotapes.
When sending a query by mail or email: editor@nwbaby.com, please include the article you wish us to consider. We do not accept attached files via email, so simply embed your manuscript in the text of an email query. Email is our preferred method for considering manuscripts.
Articles are usually 250-750 words, though we may consider longer articles up to 1200 words. In email submissions, please do not add extra formatting, unusual fonts, or use all capital letters for titles, and put your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number on the first page. If you are a Baby Diaper Service customer, please include your account number. You may wish to include a one- or two-sentence biographical sketch at the end of your submission.
We try to use an article within three months of receiving it. Because of the large volume of unsolicited articles we receive, we are unable to personally respond to every submission. It is our policy to respond only to those writers whose articles have been selected for publication.
Submission of an article grants us the right to edit the work for publication and to convert it into digitized form for placement on our website (nwbaby.com), unless you specify in writing that your work is not to be used on the website. Upon publication, rights revert to the author, and you are free to sell it as a reprint. We respectfully ask you not to resell articles to parenting publications in the greater Puget Sound region of Washington State.
We also accept poetry and photographs. Photos must be at least 3" by 5" to clearly show the subject. Photos can be sent via email as well, in TIFF or PDF formats. No JPEGs, please.
Submit all queries, manuscripts, and photos to: Betty Freeman, Editor, 4395 Rollinghill Road, Clinton, WA 98236 or email:editor@nwbaby.com. If you have questions, please call 360-341-1076.
Contributors are compensated with certificates from Baby Diaper Service or we compensate monetarily if the writer is not in need of diaper service. A 500-word article usually pays $40 either in certificate form or check; shorter articles - $20, poetry and photos - $10 each. Payment is made after publication.
Thank you again for your interest in Northwest Baby & Child.
