2008 Editorial Calendar

January: Early childhood education, family time and resource management. Making positive educational choices for young children, organizing the home for a new year, and keeping resolutions for high-quality family time.

February: Falling in love with your life and making it count. Spreading love beyond the family, teaching children the value of volunteer service and caring. Early education continued with an emphasis on enrichment opportunities, finding quality child care, and advocating for children with special needs.

March: Using resources wisely and healthy living. Advocating for your family's overall health and financial wellbeing, saving for the future. Also the first of three award-winning Good Beginnings pregnancy, birth, and postpartum supplements.

April: Get outside! Teaching children about environmental stewardship. Spring brings Earth Day and new life, opportunities for making healthy choices, farmers markets, community supported agriculture, gardening with children, recycling, planning for summer camp. First of two resale/consignment store maps.

May: Moms make it happen. The many ways moms use their strengths, talents, intelligence, and political clout to make the world a better place for families. Whether starting a home business, networking with other parents, marching for a political cause or teaching their children strong values, mothers have power!

June: Families on the go! Picking berries at a U-Pick farm, Saturdays at the Farmers Market, family reunions, day trips and volunteer vacations-families have a world of opportunities for summer enrichment and fun. Also, our second Good Beginnings supplement, with an emphasis on the importance of the father's role in birth and early parenting.

July: Going organic! From clothing to food choices, going organic optimizes family and environmental health. Healthy families play together, learn new ways of living, shop locally, and teach respect for nature. Natural health care, healthy foods, exercising together, celebrations.

August: Thinking about back to school and savoring the last of summer. Making the most of those last golden days of summer, family outings and hobbies, setting the stage for a new school year. Finding quality childcare. Second of two resale/consignment store maps aids planning to go "back to school green".

September: Back to school and harvest activities. As one season ends and another begins, in September families think about safety, healthy diets, bedtimes, and routines. Farms offer harvest activities for fun family outings. Finding room in the family schedule for dance, music, or art lessons.

October: Pick a pumpkin patch! Enjoying autumn activities while planning for colder weather and inside enrichment opportunities such as play spaces, museums, family-friendly art and music venues. Voting your conscience, using your power to change the world for our children's sake.

November: Families together. Parents, grandparents, extended family, neighbors and friends create a network of support, education and shelter for children. Connecting with family even if they're far away. Volunteering in the community, cooking together. Organizing for stress-free holidays and a "green" toy guide. Third of three Good Beginnings supplements, focusing on the newborn.

December: Gifts for the spirit. Using the holiday season to teach spiritual values, family traditions and ethnic pride. Holiday theatre, music, and enrichment opportunities. Gifts of experience, gifts that keep on giving, celebrations that reflect family values, caring for others and for the Earth.
