What Scot does for a life...
So, here we are on my "life" page. I have a life. I'm not a computer nerd or geek. I'm an average man with many interests, primary among them my family and friends, and by extension the community in which I live.
I've been described as a nerd or geek or "techie" in the past. All I can say I pretty much resent the terms. They classify me and many others in undeserving ways. I'm a person, a man, a father and husband, friend, and more, but I'm not a geek or nerd.
I'm originally from Dallas, Texas. My family's history in Texas dates back to the 1820's, when it was part of (the newly independent) Mexico. I moved to Washington with my wife Lisa in 1992 (well, she came up in '93) and we haven't looked back. I miss Texas, but I prefer the mountains and ocean of western Washington, especially here on Whidbey Island. During the summer I get my fill of beautiful sunsets on the beaches looking out on Puget Sound and the San Juan Straights.
Life on Whidbey Island. My take on living in this wonderful community and this beautiful place.
Texas? You don't sound like a Texan! I'll keep this one short and on this page. I was raised in Dallas, which is a metropolitan city. They do not teach a "Texas accent" in Dallas schools. Many people pick up a twang from their family, but it is NOT a part of the curriculum. The few things I did get from the local language were contracted words like "y'all" (you all) and "fixin' to" ("about to" or "getting ready to"). The rest was straight-up general english. The same goes for Houston.
I track international politics for fun!. Here's my take on various issues politic, and some other links to political issues sites.
I have long been a fan of science. Here's some of my scientific interests and other links.
My essays, or my opinions on all sorts of things.
I've had an amatuer license since 1980. I've sadly never used it, but now seems like the time to start.
