Life on Whidbey Island
We have lived here since 2000, and we have been coming here since 1996, when my wife started her first City & Guilds of London Design & Embroidery course at the Coupeville Arts Center.
Along the way we made friends and fell in love with the location. At last we found our community; a place where we had friends we love. We could go home to North Bend (WA), where we lived at the time, and immediately miss Whidbey.
To many people in the Seattle area Whidbey is a vacation destination. To many people on Whidbey, however, Seattle is where they work. These people, and I was among them when I had a job, commute both ways every day. It's a long commute, but it's worth it as far as we're concerned. Coming home to Whidbey every day is a treat and a comfort. Seattleites tend to look at this as a form of insanity, but we do it freely and by choice.
This is really just the start of my page on Whidbey. To do the place justice I'll have to site for a while and think up the appropriate prose. Meanwhile, I'll send you to a good starting point for more info about Whidbey Island: http://www.whidbey.net.
