David Perry Ruff
September 16, 1917 - February 16, 2005

Nancy's father's last days were horribly painful, so his death was a true blessing.  Through it all, his attitude was positive and upbeat.  He was truly a role model for living and for dying, and we were lucky to have him with us for so long.  Nancy's mother is doing well -- it was hard for her to watch the love of her life for almost 63 years waste away and caring for him was also hard on her physically but she is strong and positive about her future.

The memorial service to celebrate his life was February 20 in Bryan, Texas, and was a wonderful time to share memories with family and friends.  The service was full of music and exactly what David said he wanted.  Nancy's sister Rita found the following poem that David wrote in 2001 -- we included it in the memorial service program:

I'm not looking for a mansion
I'm not looking for a crown
I'm on my way to Calvary
To walk on Holy ground.

I'll take off both my sandals
Put on a snow white robe
Reach out my hands to Jesus
As we walk that Heavenly road.

There's no reward that I have earned
Most talents passed me by
But Jesus gave a promise
And that's the reason why

There has to be a better way
Than this old sinful life
And the lonesome life I've travelled
With all this sin and strife.

I'm on my way to Heaven
Getting closer every day
Jesus gave the Invitation
That's why I'm on my way.
