Rest in Peace, Doc 2000-2012

Doc came to us at the absolute lowest point in our lives, and helped us to be able to smile again. He was our own personal therapy dog, because he did so much to help us heal. We miss him terribly and will always be thankful he was such a big part of our lives.

We got him as a puppy, and from the time he was done with his puppy shots, we took him to Marymoor off-leash park, where we were introduced to the pleasure of watching dogs running free and enjoying life with reckless abandon. From his daily visits to the park and interactions with literally hundreds of different dogs, Doc became extremely well socialized. When we started our dog daycare business, Doc was our "evaluator"; by watching him interact with another dog at the daycare evaluation, we could get a good sense of whether or not the other dog had any kind of aggression issues. He was eventually certified as a Delta Society therapy dog.

Doc even led us to the Farm. We would often take day trips from Redmond to different dog friendly places, and on a trip to the off-leash beach at Double Bluff, we passed by a property for sale, which eventually became Lucky Dogs Farm.

Doc and His Buddy

When we brought Sherlock home it was for a trial period, because we weren't sure how he and Doc would get along, but they turned out to be good buddies. We really enjoyed watching them patrol the perimeter of the Farm, noses to the ground, with older, wiser Doc in the lead and his young protégé Sherlock following close behind. We're always amazed that two dogs of the same breed had such completely different personalities.
