Moving to Whidbey
Doc has been with us since 2000, and in 2003 we moved with him to Whidbey Island after retiring from the real world. But retirement didn't mean taking it easy - there was lots of work to do. Our first big job was replacing all the barbed wire fencing around the property so that Doc could roam free and stay safe. Here he is strolling around the grounds when we first moved here
Sherlock Comes Home
Early in 2004, we found out about a family with a 2 year old
English Setter
who needed more exercise than they could provide. Luckily, he and Doc got along well, so we were able to adopt him.
With one English Setter named Doctor Watson, we had no choice but to name him Sherlock Holmes, but he goes by many names - Sherlock, Holmes, Thumper Boy, and Goofball, to name a few. With another
dog to play with and 4+ acres to run free, Sherlock went from not getting enough exercise to being exhausted at night from running around all day.
How Lucky Dogs Farm Got It's Name
After having spent a lot of time and effort making the place safe for our own two lucky dogs, we thought it would be fun to open an outdoor dog daycare facility using one of our fields. We decided to name it Lucky Dogs Farm and opened for business in
2004. We were soon busy with a great bunch of happy
hounds, due to the extremely dog-friendly
Whidbey Island community. We closed for business in 2008 after being outside all day during a few winters that were a bit too cold for comfort, but people on south Whidbey still know our home as Lucky Dogs Farm.
