Media CODECs
CODECs are the encoding
and decoding engines that process audio and video digital media. Newer
and more compact, more efficient, and higher quality CODECs are
constantly being made available.
GenWare®
applications that afford media playback, such as Showtime™,
MPLC™
and Post'em™,
utilize Windows®
Operating System DirectShow media filtering, which is a coordinator for
collating numerous and varied CODECs for media playback.
A current Windows
installation, such as Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista,
should contain any required DirectShow filters and CODECs for most media
playback. The following sources can provide support when
video or audio playback support is missing.
| K-Lite
CODEC Pack
|
Codec
Guide's freeware K-Lite offering may well be the most complete
CODEC installation for DirectShow filtering and Windows
operating system media interface. The KLTeam is known for
constantly updating their installation with latest CODEC
versions, with an emphasis on system compatibility and
coordination.
Setup options run
from a minimal Basic
to a comprehensive Full
installation.

| Medialooks
Quicktime Directshow Source
|
Medialooks
offers a DirectShow filter for Quicktime MP4 content. Though
ffdshow does much of the same, there is Quicktime MP4 content
for which other filters fail to register both video and audio.
Medialooks
Quicktime Directshow Source specifically targets MP4 content
that might otherwise only be playable with Quicktime for
Windows.
The full function
demo sports a relatively nondescript semi-transparent logo.
