Ben
was diagnosed with a rare, potentially fatal, auto-immune disease in 2003 at the age
of 12. |
The disease, Wegener’s Granulomatosis, attacks small blood vessels, especially the kidneys, lungs, sinuses, joints, skin, eyes, and ears. It is treated aggressively with chemotherapy and steroids. There is no cure. In addition, Ben now suffers from autonomic neuropathy. It is not known if the disease process or the treatment caused the nerve dysfunction creating nausea, vomiting, pulse, and blood pressure anomalies. Ben receives frequent treatments at Children's Hospital in Seattle along with great care from his local natural medicine team. |
